Will Gyanesh Kumar resign as Chief Election Commissioner of India by October 31, 2026?
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, in office since February 2025, faces resignation demands from opposition parties and street protests over the nationwide revision of electoral rolls; on October 5, 2026 the Supreme Court declined to suspend him before hearing the Election Commission, which rejects the allegations. This market resolves YES if Kumar's resignation as CEC is officially confirmed by October 31, 12:00 (UTC-8). Removal by Parliament, a court-ordered suspension or calls to resign do not qualify.
Resolution rules · English binding text
This market resolves YES if Gyanesh Kumar resigns from the office of Chief Election Commissioner of India and the resignation is officially confirmed — by the Election Commission of India, the President's Secretariat, the Ministry of Law and Justice, a Gazette of India notification or the Press Information Bureau — at or before October 31, 2026, 12:00 (UTC-8) — equivalent to October 31, 2026, 20:00 UTC (November 1, 2026, 01:30 IST). A resignation submitted inside the window counts once it is officially confirmed by the deadline, even if its effective date falls later or it is subsequently withdrawn. Resolves NO if no such official confirmation is published by the deadline. Removal through the parliamentary process, suspension or restraint by any court, leave of absence, reassignment of duties, death or the end of his term do not count as a resignation. Media reports, statements by political parties and social-media posts without official confirmation do not qualify. Resolution sources: eci.gov.in / pib.gov.in / egazette.gov.in / reuters.com
