How to read economics markets

Economics markets usually ask about a data release or a policy decision, such as an inflation figure or a central bank rate. They resolve from the publishing agency’s official figure.

Agencies can revise numbers after publication. The rules should say whether the first release or a later revision decides the market.

Before you trade, check

  • Which agency and which release decide the result?
  • Does a later revision change the outcome?
  • Is the figure compared at a stated rounding?
